Russ and his pop group Scooch represented the UK at the Eurovision Song Contest, beating tough competition from the likes of Justin Hawkins and Brian Harvey. The selection show ending with the now infamous Sir Terry Wogan "Cyndi" gaffe. It turned out that the British public had voted in their scores for Scooch to fly the flag.
Russ co-wrote the song "Flying The Flag (For You)", with his writing partner Morten Schjolin, signed to Warner Bros. and stormed the UK charts to the No.5 position (No.1 in physical sales). To this day Scooch hold the record for the highest charting and biggest selling UK Eurovision single in over 15 years...Since the country last won the competition in 1997.
Originally formed in 1999, Scooch signed to EMI Records and gained 4 top 20 hits including the No.5 single "More Than I Needed To Know", all culminating in the album "Four Sure". Worldwide Scooch scored No.1 singles in Japan and Australia and were top 5 across Europe.
